Let's Speak English 4 : What's The Matter?

There are many ways to express something happen, like: What's the Matter? This question is used when something we don't know happen and we need to know what exactly happened at that time. This question is usually expressed spontaneously and almost the same time at speaking. Besides, We also can use this following expression: - What's Up? - What's going on? - What happenned? - What is it? - What's Wrong? All expressions above are almost the same in meaning. Those are different in the way we stress. For examples: The expression "What's wrong?" has small different with "What's up? or what's going on?. "What's wrong" tends to ask something whether it is right or wrong. I mean ... Are the things okay? or is there something wrong with it?. WH-QUESTION vs. YES-NO QUESTION

Most of Indonesian learners find difficulties in Expressing a Question. They do not know when to use questions words or other, say, particles, like do, does, did, have ,etc to construct a question. Here, Let me help you with it. There are two types of questions In English, they are: 1. Yes/No Question, and 2. WH-Question. Yes-No Question is a question which has only two answers logically needed, they are: [yes] or [No]. This type of question is characterized by placing One Auxilliary in the beginning of a sentence. For example: Do you know me? The word "DO" is one of auxilliaries in English. You can use, like; Does, did, have, has, will or others and "be" instead /do/. However, the use of each auzilliaries above depends on the type of sentence and tense being used.
